What You Should Know About Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate Therapy (BMAC)

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate Therapy or BMAC is a cutting-edge regenerative therapy that shows great promise in helping to accelerate the healing of moderate to sever tendon and osteoarthritis injuries. Michiganders need to know that it can also make a big difference for people forced to live with the discomfort of advanced, degenerative injury or disease. It can even help people with damaged tissue that has not responded to platelet rich plasma therapy. This alternative therapy can help to give them an entirely new lease on life and relieve their pain without the need for extensive medical procedures or invasive surgery.

How BMAC Therapy Works

Bone marrow contains a rich concentrate of regenerative stem cells that are very powerful. Using IV anesthesia these bone marrow aspirate cells can be harvested from the hip easily and comfortably. Although the marrow is commonly drawn from the pelvis, it can also be taken from other sites on the body. Once the patient is brought in, the pelvis is then marked and then it’s prepped in order to ensure the site remains sterile. Once this bone marrow aspirate has been drawn, it is then processed, purified and made into a concentrate to create one of the most potent healing agents ever seen.

Using high-tech image-guidance, the concentrate is then injected into the affected tissue. The processed concentrate contains blood platelets, hematopoietic and mesenchymal stem cells, chemokines as well as cytokines. By using this minimally invasive procedure the patient avoids the risks that they would face if they went through the open bone graft procedure that is often used to extract bone marrow.

What To Expect After BMAC Treatment

Usually, once the treatment is completed the medical team will create a post-injection therapy program that is completely personalized to meet the needs of each patient. The therapy program is designed to help the patient to heal thoroughly and then rehabilitate. A small bandage or dressing is usually placed at the site of the aspiration until it has healed. In the past patients were advised to use steroid, narcotics and other traditional treatments which provide immediate relief. However, the relief those treatments provide are usually only temporary and only serve to mask the discomfort caused by the injury. BMAC treatment will help patients to experience gradual pain relief that can become permanent.

As the BMAC therapy begins to take effect, the body will heal and the damaged tissue will begin to regenerate. For the first few days after they receive the injection the patient should expect to see some swelling and experience some soreness. In just over a week the soreness and swelling will begin to resolve and dissipate entirely. Each patient is different and responds to the BMAC treatment in a slightly different way. However, many patients that take the treatment begin to experience significant improvement beginning in about two weeks after they receive the treatment.

Patients that have gone through the BMAC treatment have enjoyed lasting relief because of the advanced regenerative power the stem cells their bone marrow contains is able to deliver. The BMAC treatment does not simply mask the symptoms of the problem the body is dealing with by repressing the inflammatory response of the body like other types of treatments. Instead, the treatment activates the internal systems that catalyzes the regenerative and healing process. Used in conjunction with a team of expert physical therapists, the BMAC treatment can lead to permanent healing without having to resort to invasive surgery.

Conditions That Can Be Addressed With BMAC Therapy

There are a number of conditions that can be addressed through the use of stem cells as part of the BMAC treatment. The stem cells drawn, prepared and used with BMAC can be vital in assisting with cartilage repair, bone healing, as well as new blood vessel growth. It can also be used to treat cartilage defects, chronic wounds, tendon problems, delayed union or the nonunion of bone fractures and osteonecrosis.

If you have chronic discomfort that has not responded to traditional treatments or medication, you may be able to benefit from BNAC treatment. Contact your doctor and let them know you want to know more about the therapy and find out if it can work for you. They can connect you to someone that can provide you with all the information you need to make an intelligent decision. This can be one of the most important decisions you ever make. It can help you to permanently get rid of the chronic discomfort that you have been forced to endure for years and help you to enjoy a better quality of life.

While BMAC therapy can be used to help people in Michigan and all over Metro-Detroit with a wide range of conditions, this type of therapy should not be used by certain people suffering with cancer or those that have an infection.
